Hand Crafted Glass Large Subway Mosaic Tile
If you are big on glass tile, perhaps one of our 3"x6" or 3"x12" glass subway tiles are the right choice for your new kitchen backsplash or bathroom. They are very easy to install. They can be placed in a running bond- or grid-like pattern. If you are looking for a more traditional tile installation we suggest using a running bond pattern. If you want to create a more moden 'downtown feeling', consider installing them in a linear grid pattern. They are a great choice for anyone looking for a glass shower/tub surround, or a kitchen backsplash.
The use of the term subway tile dates back to around 1904 when the New York City Subway System opened its doors. Citing the need for easy cleaning and maintenance, architect Squire Vickers worked alongside mosaic artisans Heins & Lafarge to come up with a design that incorporated the use of these large rectangular tiles along with mosaic master pieces throughout each of the initial 28 stations. From that period on, these rectangular tiles have been known as subway tiles.
